Guilherme Pimenta is part of a generation of violinists that have been bringing the instrument into Brazilian styles such as Choro, Samba and Forró. Born in Minas GeraisBrazil, this virtuoso violinist and composer studied classical violin at prestigious music schools in Brazil and in the United States (graduate in music performance at UFMG in 2011; masters at University of New Mexico in 2014). He has been on stage playing everything from Brazilian music, Jazz and Classical genres in countries such as Belgium, United States, Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. Guilherme has worked and recorded with artists and groups as Carlos Malta, Gabriel Grossi, Alma Thomas, Ricardo Herz, Orquestra de Sopros da Pro Arte, Conjunto Época de Ouro, Geraes Big Band and many others. He has been living in Rio de Janeiro since 2014, where he is fully dedicated to playing and teaching improvisation and Brazilian music. He is now working with projects as the samba group Papagaio Sabido (album “Revoada” released in 2017; album “Released” released in 2021), Pimenta Jazz Trio, with whom he toured in Europe in 2019; and Guilherme Pimenta Quartet (album “Catopê” released in 2019; the album was awarded the “best Brazilian jazz group” at the Festival de Música da Radio MEC). Guilherme is currently doing his PHD research in music at UNIRIO (Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro) and he is releasing his second solo album in 2022 with the jazz label Freshsound Records.
