Regulations of the 6th Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition, Poland, September 26-29, 2024.
1. General Information
The 6thZbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition is organized by the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation.
The Competition is open to violinists, violists and cellists of all nationalities under the age of 38, performing jazz and improvised music. All types of violins, violas and cellos, both acoustic and electric, can be used.
The Competition is biennial (i.e. it is held every 2 years). The Organizer reserves the right to change the instrument or group of instruments to which the Competition will be dedicated in the future.
The 1stprize winners cannot take part in the future editions of the Competition.
2. Registration
The Organizer will enrol candidates on the basis of a carefully completed application form, available from the Organizer’s website at: Seifertcompetition, in the folder “Registration”. The following must be attached to the application:
- recordings of 3 music compositions in MP3 format (each file should not exceed 15 MB);
- two photos of the candidate (min. 1 MB each) which the Organizer can use in all promotional materials;
- the candidate’s brief bio in English (max. 1500 characters, Times New Roman, 12 pt).
The complete applicationsmust be submitted via the Organizer’s website not later than by 31st of May 2024. The results of the preliminary round will be forwarded to all the candidates by 12th of June 2024.
Candidates qualified for the Competition cover the cost of a registration fee of €50 (50 Euros).
3. Repertoire Requirements
The repertoire submitted along with the application form by the candidate (in the online preliminary round) can be selected freely, except that one piece must be a solo composition.
Candidates qualified for the semi-finals must perform the following program:
a. a composition by Zbigniew Seifert, selected by the candidate;
b. two pieces of the candidate’s own choice (own compositions can also be presented).
The obligatory program in the final round consists of:
a. a composition by Zbigniew Seifert, selected by the candidate - different than during the semi-finals;
b. two pieces of the candidate’s own choice (own compositions can also be presented) – different than during the semi-finals.
It is possible to perform solo without the rhythm section both during the semi-finals and the finals.
4. Prizes
The Organizer offers three Competition prizes:
–1st prize - 40.000 PLN gross
–2nd prize - 20.000 PLN gross
–3rd prize - 10.000 PLN gross
The amount of the main and additional prizes will be announced at a later date. The final decision concerning the division of prizes among the winners is taken by the Competition Jury.
The winners are obliged to perform at the final concert (on 29th of September 2024). Failure to fulfil this requirement is tantamount to breaking the Competition Regulations and will result in excluding the candidate and forfeiting the prize.
Special awards will also be granted (details to be announced later).
5. The Auditions
The auditions of the semi-final round will be held on Thursday 26th and Friday 27thof September 2024. The final round, for which the jury will qualify max 6 musicians, will be held on Saturday 28th September 2024.
The rehearsal for all participants will take place on Wednesday 25 th of September 2024.
The order of performances will be decided by random draw and announced before the beginning of the semi-finals. All the competition auditions are open for the audience to attend and streamed online.
6. Music Scores
The scores of compositions performed by candidates qualified for the auditions in Cracow must be submitted not later than 1st of July 2024. The scores, with titles and names of composers, ought to contain performance notes and a lead sheet (the melody and the basic harmonic structure). Failure to fulfil this requirement will result in excluding the candidate. Sheet music ought to be accompanied by MP3 recordings of the selected pieces.
7. The Organizer’s Obligations
The Organizer shall provide a concert hall complete with a sound system, lights and support services. The Organizer will also provide a rhythm section consisting of a piano, a double-bass and percussion, with which the qualified candidates will be able to rehearse before each performance. All the participants will perform with the same rhythm section.
The Organizer shall provide accommodation in Krakow. All the other costs, such as travel and health insurance, shall be covered by the participants themselves. The organizer is not responsible for the consequences resulting from the lack of health insurance.
8. Online Streaming and Recording
All participants qualified for the Competition shall grant the Organizer the right and permission to use the artistic performances of the works performed by the participants during the rehearsals, auditions and the gala concert in the following fields of exploitation: recording and online broadcasting of the auditions, audio/video streaming in real time, recording and rebroadcasting on Polish state television, as well as the production of promotional materials, archiving all the auditions, the audio/video recording of the gala concert, and CD releases comprising selected works.
9. The Participant’s Image
a. Every participant qualified for the Competition thereby agrees for his or her name and the other submitted data to be made public in connection with promoting the list of qualified participants, among others, in the media, on the Competition’s website and the Organizer’s profiles in the social media.
b. All the participants give their permission and authorize the Organizer to use their image reproduced by means of all photographic technologies, audio/video recording, live broadcast and audio/video streaming (both music and interviews) of events related to the Competition – on the Internet, television and the radio, as well as disseminating their image for the purpose of advertising and promoting the Competition, including its use on CD/DVD covers, in brochures, press notes, multimedia presentations, on internet websites and in other electronic communications media.
c. All the above includes also the right to modify the image in part or as a whole, add other photos, graphic elements, captions and headings, as well as digital processing of the image. The said permission is given free of charge, unlimited in Time and Territory.
10. Personal Data Protection
The competition Organizer hereby informs that:
The administrator of the personal data contained in the Participant’s agreement is the Zbigniew Seifert Foundation, with seat in Warsaw at 13/21 Chrzanowskiego Street, NIP (tax identification number) 1132799963.
The personal data contained in the Participant’s agreement are processed based on art. 6 section 1 item b) of the Regulation of the European Parliament and the (EU) Council no. 2016/679 of 27thApril 2016, in order to make the organization of the Competition possible.
The applicants reserve the right to access their personal data by request (submitted to the Administrator), have them corrected or deleted, to limit or object to their processing, demand their transfer, and place a complaint with the supervisory authority.
Provision of the personal data is a necessary condition for everyone entering the Competition.
11. Final Provisions
Before the Competition, all the candidates shall sign an agreement with the Organizer.
The Organizer reserves the right to record all the Competition performances in audio/video format and use those recordings freely for the further promotion of the Competition.
The Organizer reserves the right to cancel the Competition in case the number of qualified candidates is not sufficient.
All the decisions taken by the Jury at all the stages (rounds) of the Competition are final and irrevocable.
The Organizer of the 6thZbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition reserves the right to decide about the final interpretation of the present Regulations.
