Tomasz Stańko about Zbigniew Seifert

He was first of all an outstanding violinist. Nobody plays like he did, even today with Coltrane’s technique of fourths, unlike any violin technique. He had his sound and distinct style something that only the best musicians can afford (…). Zbyszek was always my right hand man. He knew exactly what he should play. He had an extraordinary passion for music and jazz. I was very unhappy in Cracow before I could form my band with Janusz Stefański, Zbigniew Seifert, Janusz Muniak and Bronek Suchanek. This was perfect. They were musicians I could leave absolute freedom to, with Zbigniew and Bronek’s extraordinary violin improvisations. Stefański’s excellent drumming and Muniak’s great performances. It was a fantastic band! (…) We loved life, music and jazz. The Quintet was an extraordinary band. There were no others like it in Poland. One can only have such a band once in a lifetime. I also had excellent bands later, but it was not the same. (…) There has been no other comparable violinist. He is our national treasure.
